Gesture Translator Let's make communication via sign language simpler
and avaliable for everyone!

About

App goal

Every day deaf people had to struggle with the huge communication barrier. To help them we created app which recognizes sign language gestures

Solution

App recognizes sign language gestures (letters). All created with cheap and avaliable sources - using the Raspberry Pi microcomputer, open source image processing technology, and machine learning in Python with the OpenCV library.

Download

Gesture Translator is a prototype version. This includes the complete source files including Python and bash script as well as a data learning set.

This work is taking part in Anita's Moonshot Codeathon. If you are interested about story behind the app, you can read description: here .

Future

In the future, the application would be able to read gestures more accurately and recognize whole words. We need to provide more training data and tests with real users. Also we plan to develop the graphical interface.
